    • Blant lederne for de nye orkestrene som dukket opp i Haugesund i 1890-årene var organist Lorentz O. Reitan, som også var ledende i byens sangliv. Bl.a. fikk Haugesund Turnforeningsitt eget orkester i 1894 med Reitan som leder.

      Lorentz O. Reitan kom til Haugesund fra Visnes i 1892 som musikklærer. Han gjorde gratis arbeid i kor og orkester på tross av at han skulle leve av å undervise i sang og musikk. I slutten av 1890-årene ble det gitt noen konserter til inntekt for han.
      I Bedehuset, hvor han var ulønnet organist, fikk han et årlig offer.

      Lorentz var en aldrende mann da han kom til Haugesund, og han fikk ikke utrettet så mye for musikklivet i byen som sin yngre kollega og forgjenger, M. Aarsvold. [8]
