My family lost a dearly loved uncle today in a car accident. Uncle Jim was a wonderful man, my early memories of him are him playing his guitar and singing with us. The last time I saw him, he was doing the same, playing and singing. I wish I could see him one more time. He was incredibly talented with music as well as woodworking. Jeremy my thoughts and prayers are with you, Elizabeth and the boys and especially Deb.

From the Bloomington Board of Realtors May 3rd 2016:

    Obituary:

On the morning of May 2, 2016, James Francis Sprague, Jr. lost his life in a car accident.

James was born in Michigan City, Indiana and grew up in Long Beach. He spent his boyhood enjoying Lake Michigan and playing baseball with friends. He attended Long Beach Elementary and Barker Middle School. Jim spent one year at Elston High School in Michigan City and graduated Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, Virginia.

From 1967-1971 Jim served in the Air Force in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he met his first wife, Sharon Dianne Skrogstad. They moved to Bloomington in 1972. While Jim studied at IU, he started a wooden toy business with Sharon. Their son Jeremy was born in 1974. Jim was a founding member of By Hand Gallery, a Bloomington artist co-op.

As Jim’s love of woodworking grew, he ventured into a career as a cabinetmaker and designed and built beautiful furniture and kitchens. In the early 90’s, Jim became a realtor with RE/MAX. In 1992, Jim met Deb Murzyn and a year later they married.

Jim was a man who loved big. He knew how precious life is and lived each day to the fullest. He loved music and felt honored to be a part of the Bloomington music community and was a strong presence in it. He played weekly with fellow musicians at Player’s Pub and often hosted the Tuesday night Blues Jam. Jim was in three bands: O2R, Cliff and the Guardrails, and the Swingsmiths.

Jim also loved sports and was an avid sports fan. He loved Mickey Mantle, the Yankees, the Cubs, and IU. Jim looked forward to the Cubs winning the World Series this year. He also renewed his joy for woodworking when he recently returned to making beautiful furniture.

Jim loved his family and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife Debbie Murzyn, son Jeremy Sprague (Elizabeth), stepson Christopher Poolitsan (Allison), grandsons James and Michael Sprague, sister Virginia Winn, brother Charles Sprague, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
