      Carsten ble først gift i Tønder 14.november 1596 med ukjent hustru.

      Margrethe Schnell var på sin side enke etter toller i Haderslev og amtskriver på Haderslevhus, Niels Toller, som døde i 1596, etter vel 5 års ekteskap (gift 1591). De fikk 2 barn.

      Carsten og Margrethe fikk 10 barn, 6 sønner og 4 døtre, bl.a.:

      Annichen, Margrethe, Johannes, Oluf (tollskriver i Flekkerød), Catharine og Wilhelm.

      Som enke bodde Margrethe i Haderslev inntil hun på grunn av fiendens innfall i Holsten i 1627, flyttet til Norge med sine barn. Her bodde hun hos sin sønn fra første ekteskap. [1, 2, 3]
