    Herman I. Berg, 100, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, Jan. 20, 2005, at a local care center.

    Memorial Service: A memorial celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the sanctuary of Trinity Lutheran Church, Montgomery Street at Camp Bowie Blvd. The Rev. Dr. Ronald K. Heimsoth will officiate.

    Memorials: Mr. Berg's family respectfully suggests that memorial contributions be given, in his name, to the Megahan Ministry at Lutheran Bible Translators, P.O. Box 2050, Aurora, Ill. 60705-2050.

    A native of Baltic, S.D., Herman I. Berg was born Oct. 27, 1904, the son of Ingebrigt J. and Karen I. Kvam Berg. He was a member of the first graduating class of Baltic High School in 1923.

    After graduating from South Dakota State College with an engineering degree, Herman joined the Bureau of Public Roads. He married the former Hazel J. Linge in 1935, a marriage that produced four children. In 1933, he was transferred to Austin and later to Fort Worth in 1945, where the family joined Trinity Lutheran Church.

    Following the death of Hazel in 1954, he married Alice Marie Nelson, a Clifton native. Alice Marie died in 1989.

    Herman retired in 1970, and became an avid golfer, which he enjoyed well into his 90s. He remained active in his church until health issues moved him to a care center. His family wishes to express their appreciation to Benbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and VITAS Hospice for the care they gave to their father.

    Survivors: Children, Jon I. Berg of Fort Worth, Kay Berg of Wilmington, N.C., JoAnn Berg of Dallas and Gary D. Berg of Austin; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    Herman married Hazel Jolanthe Linge, "Berg" on 28 Nov 1935. Hazel (daughter of Johannes Torbjørnsen Lille Linge and Martha Roarson, "Linge") was born on 12 Feb 1912 in Holstein, Ida, Iowa, USA; died on 15 Aug 1954 in Forth Worth, Tarrant, Texas, USA; was buried after 15 Aug 1954 in Dell Rapids, Minnehaha, South Dakota, USA.     Jon Ian Berg died peacefully Wednesday morning, July 28, 2010, during his 72nd year, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

    Service: 1 p.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, 7900 McCart Ave. The Rev. Mark Moore, pastor of the church, will officiate.
    Jon's cremated remains will be placed privately in the columbarium in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

    Visitation: Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper.
    Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to a charity of one's choice, honoring Jon's memory, is suggested.

    Born May 7, 1938, in Austin, Jon was the son of Herman and Hazel Linge Berg. In 1945 the family moved to Fort Worth where Jon graduated from Arlington Heights High School. After spending four years in the U.S. Navy, Jon joined IBM. He took early retirement in 1997 after receiving many honors from the company. Jon had many varied interests that included fishing, history, archeology and genealogy. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and loved his family.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Alice Marie; and a daughter, Monique Elizabeth.

    Survivors: In addition to his wife of 48 years, Linda Spurlock Berg, Jon is survived by his son, Erik; beloved grandchildren, whom he doted on, Trae and Brooke Ashley Berg; brother, Gary Berg and his wife, Linda, of Austin; sisters, Kay Berg of Wilmington, N.C., and Jo Ann Berg Megahan and her husband, Michael, of Francistown, Botswana; and nieces and nephews and their families.
