Jørgen Bernhoft blev efter at have gjennemgaaet en Privatskole i sin Hjembygd i August 1871 optaget i Skolens 6te Latinklasse og opflyttedes 1872 i øverste Kl., fra hvilken han iaar skulde være dimitteret til Universitetet. Ved Nytaarstid kastedes han imidlertid paa Sygeleiet og afgik ved Døden 21/4 s.A. Han var en meget vel begavet Discipel, om hvem man kunde nære de bedste Forhaabninger.
