    Dr. Charles Deck Wrege, Adjunct Professor at the Kheel Labor-Management Documentation Center, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, since 1991, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Born in Newark, NJ, he lived in East Orange until moving to Spring Lake in 1969.

    The author of more than 100 articles on management history, he co-authored with Ronald G. Greenwood: Frederick W. Taylor: Father of Scientific Management:; Myth and Reality, 1991, author of: Fact and Fallacies of Hawthorne: A Historical Analysis of the Hawthorne Illumination Tests and The Hawthorne Studies, in 1986. He also wrote: Spring Lake, An Early History, published in 1976.

    He served in the U.S. Air Force in the South Pacific in WWII, as a photographer with the 35th Photographic Technical Unit. Dr. Wrege attended New Mexico Highland University, Las Vegas, NM in 1950, Upsala College, 1950 – 1955, earning a M.A. Concurrent with attending the New School, he enrolled in New York University, earning a M.B.A. in 1956 and a Ph.d in 1961. From 1956 to 1961, Dr. Wrege was on the faculty of the School of Commerce of New York University. In 1961, he joined Rutgers Universtiy, retiring from the School of Business in 1991, when he joined Cornell.

    Dr. Wrege was predeceased by his wife Beulah Marion-Cippel Wrege, born in Newark, NJ, who passed away on December 23, 2002. In 2003, he published a book on their 1950 romance: A Romance in Watercolors: Painting by Chuck Wrege for B Wrege.

    Interment will be in Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan, NJ. Visiting will be Friday, from 10AM until the service is offered at 12 noon at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 Wall, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter, 185 Brick Blvd., Brick, NJ 08723 (bio by: BJW).

    According to the newspaper account of his son Heinrich's retirement from Standard Oil, he was connected with it (the oil business) as early as 1864 at Humboldt, Pa. Later, he moved to Brooklyn to become oil treater at the Sone and Fleming plant...

    The Humboldt refinery was located near Plumer in Venango County, Pennsylvania, south of Titusville.

    In the 1866-1867 Jersey City Directory, he is listed for the first time as Frederick, oil refiner, h r 364 S Sixth.

    In the 1870 Census, he is enumerated in (Greenpoint) Kings County, New York as - Wrager - with wife - Dinah - (this should have read Catherine; in what would appear to be an enumerator error, Catherine was listed as the same name as the wife at the previous address) and sons Henry and Frederick, daughter Minnie (Wilhelmina).

    In 1880 Census, he is identifed as employed as - oil refiner - living at 105 Diamond Avenue, Brooklyn.

    In 1900 Census, he is employed as - Saloonkeeper - with sons Henry, John and Albert as - Yachtsmen - son Charles as - housecarpenter - and Otto as - Boatsman - living at 130 Communipaw Avenue, Jersey City.

    In 1910 Census, he is - Saloonkeeper - with wife Mader. In the 1900 Census, a Mater Weber, servant, is listed. Apparently they married between 1900 and 1910.
