    • Andrew C. Nilsson.

Andrew Charles Nilsson, 67, currently of Crystal Lake, but a longtime resident of Oakwood Hills, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 8, 2024, surrounded by his family.

For over 25 years, Andy served as Pastor of Congregational Care at Living Grace Community Church in Cary, where he was known for his caring heart and tireless dedication to others. He loved connecting with people, often making phone calls to encourage those who needed to feel the love of Jesus. Andy’s sense of humor, quick wit, and playful pranks brought laughter to everyone around him. Despite his ongoing health struggles, he always found reasons to be thankful, never losing sight of the blessings in his life.

Andy met Deb Lochen on a blind date, and the two quickly discovered they were a perfect match. Married on June 20, 1980, they shared a deep bond, supporting each other through life’s challenges as fellow type 1 diabetics. They truly were two peas in a pod. Deb passed away on April 8, 2015, and Andy often spoke of how much he missed her.

In his later years, Andy lived with his son Josh, daughter-in-law Lisa, and their children. Being surrounded by his grandchildren was the highlight of his days. He loved listening to Anya play piano, building rockets with Ollie, cuddling with Evelyn and Isabele, and playing card games like UNO with all his grandchildren. These moments brought him so much joy, and he treasured every laugh and smile they shared.

Andy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Lisa Nilsson; his grandchildren, Anya, Oliver, Evelyn, Isabele, and Anthony Perez; and many cherished friends and members of his church community. His kindness, love, and unwavering faith made a difference in countless lives, and he will be deeply missed.

A celebration of Andy’s life will be held on Saturday, December 14, with a memorial visitation to begin at 9:00am until a service at 11:00am at The Arising Church, 211 N Virginia St, Crystal Lake. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Living Grace Community Church or The Arising Church in his honor.
