    Gunnar vokste opp i Tyskland, og var lojal mot Nasjonal Samling, det norske nazistpartiet. Han ble beskyldt for forræderi i 1948 (Landssviksak D 1/48). Han ble sparket fra sin jobb på Ås i desember 1947. Han emigrerte deretter til Argentina.

    In 1951, it appears he was no longer married to his Norwegian wife Margit. His wife, Lisbeth Listervik, was accused of trying to kill him with a hammer. She was kept in Tucuman prison but was eventually released. She was a celebrity in the late 1930s for walking around the world with her sister Greta.

    Das vorliegende Buch entstand durch Umbearbeitung eines Manuskriptes yom halben Umfang, das im Jahre 1958 in Buenos Aires geschrieben wurde, damals aber wegen ungiinstiger okonomischer Verhaltnisse zu einem vorzeitigen Abschluf3 gebracht werden muf3te. Die Neubearbeitung erfolgte in den Jahren 1961-1962 an den Bibliotheken der niederlandischen Landwirtschaftlichen Universidit Wageningen mit okonomischer Hilfe von Norwegens allgemeinwissenschaftlichem Forschungsrat, dem ich auch an dieser Stelle meinen besten Dank aussprechen mochte. Zahlreichen Biblio theken in Buenos Aires und in Wageningen bin ich fUr eine effektive UnterstUtzung meiner Studien zu grof3em Dank verpflichtet. Die Mehrzahl der Gesichtspunkte, die der Ausformung dieses Buches zugrunde liegen, waren schon im ursprUnglichen Manuskript des Jahres 1958 enthalten. Aber erst im Jahre 1962 gelang es bei der Reinschrift der einzelnen Kapitel eine Reihe von anscheinenden Widerspriichen zwischen diesen Gesichtspunkten zu beseitigen oder zu reduzieren und auf diese Weise zu einer einheitlicheren Interpretation der fund amen talen Probleme zu gelangen. Die Konklusionen, die sich hierbei ergaben, sind in ver schiedenen Abschnitten des Buches schon eingehend behandelt. Andererseits war es bei dem heutigen Stand der Dinge noch nicht moglich, solche Gesichtspunkte und Konklusionen auf alle Probleme der Quantitativen Genetik zu erstrecken. In Teilen des Manuskriptes wurden daher altere Auffassungen noch nicht eliminiert. Vielfach wurde auch auf eine Interpretation der Phanomene verzichtet, urn grof3eres Gewicht auf ihre Beschreibung zu legen. Die Diskussionen der Dominanzverhaltnisse der Gene der Quantitativen Genetik wurden stark reduziert, da sie nach neueren Erkenntnissen weniger Bedeutung haben als man dies fruher annahm.
