    Den 2 år eldre Peder Jørgensen (f.5.mars 1823) var fra Nordre Korsvold på Dovre, hvor han og Marit startet opp som bønder.

    Peder Jørgensens far døde da Peder var 11 år, og fra da av var det han som hjalp moren å drive Korsvold-gården.

    Når han giftet seg med Marit, slo de seg ned på Korsvold.
    De drev Korsvold til de i mai 1869 flyttet derfra.

    De dro nordover til Alta og Eiby-gården som Marits bror Hans drev. Peder arbeidet så på Eiby i 3 år, før han alene dro over til Amerika i 1872.

    Emigration:
    Marits mann, Peder Jørgensen, forlot henne og barna på Hans Hansens gård Eiby i Alta, dro med en kystdamper til Hammerfest, og derfra til Amerika med dampskipet Norway (5.april 1872).

    Turen over tok vel 6 uker, og siste stykket gikk turen om St.Lawrence, Well Canal, Soo Locks og inn til Lake Superior, en velkjent rute for norske emigranter.

    Peder gikk i land i Hancock, Michigan, og arbeidet i kobberminene for Hecla Mining company i Calumet, Michigan, 1 år for å tjene til overfarten for resten av familien.

    Marit og barna dro fra Hammerfest 30.mai 1873 med dampskipet Tasso, og ankom Hancock 14.juli samme år.

    Begge sønnene, Jørgen og Hans, arbeidet med faren for Hecla Mining company i Calumet. Marit og døtrene arbeidet som syersker og serveringshjelp. Dette fram til familien hadde spart nok penger til å kjøpe en farm.

    Peder og Marit fikk kjøpt en farm i forbindelse med - the Homestead Act - i Crawford County.

    Her dyrket de corn, eller mais, med stor suksess.
