    STERLING – Shirley T. Kilberg, 80, of Sterling, died Wednesday Sept. 20, 2017, at her home.

    She was born May 19, 1937, in Sterling, the daughter of Clarence T. and Bernice A. (Bete) Skrogstad.

    Shirley was a 1956 graduate of Sterling High School.

    She married Donald Kilberg on June 29, 1957, in Sterling.

    She had worked as a dental assistant for Dr. John Readel, DDS, in Sterling for 14 years, retiring in 1995.
    She also had been an assistant preschool teacher.

    Shirley was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sterling, and a member of CGH Medical Center Auxiliary.

    Shirley was a strong and inspirational woman who fought cancer for many years.

    Survivors include her husband, Donald; daughter, Beth Ann (Ron) Walsh of Webster, New York; son, Craig (Becky) Kilberg of Rock Falls; sisters, Sally (Terry) Kuchel of Sterling and Sophia Haan of Batavia; three grandsons, Jake (Betony) Kilberg, Cooper Kilberg, and Hunter Walsh; and one stepgrandson, Jake Walsh.

    She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sonja Jane Skrogstad; and her brother, Jack Skrogstad.

    Visitation will be from 9 to 10:45 today (Sept.24th), followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., at Bethel Reformed Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Gary Dekoekkoek officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling. McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory is handling arrangements.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethel Reformed Church or Hospice of the Rock River Valley.

    ROCK FALLS - Jack Thore Skrogstad, 69, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at his home, with his loving family around him.

    He was born Feb. 1, 1942, in Sterling, the son of Clarence and Bernice (Bete) Skrogstad.

    He married Sandy Wells on Dec. 7, 1968, in Rockford. They had 42 happy years together.

    Jack worked at the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Co., Sterling, for 34 years, and then worked for Union Local 727 for 10 years. He had a strong work ethic that he passed down to his children.

    He loved his cabin on the river, his houseboat, and his trains and lighthouses. But most of all, he loved his family.

    Surviving are his wife, Sandy; three sons, Gary, Jack (Kim), and Scott (Lisa); one daughter, LuAnn (Dr. Charles) Schollmeyer; several grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley (Don) Kilberg, Sophia Haan, and Sally (Terry) Kuchel; several nieces and nephews; and his good friend and neighbor, Jim Wagenknecht.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Sonya Joan.

    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls, with the Revs. Paul Judd and Thomas Dzlelak co-officiating.

    Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew Grade School, Rock Falls, or Hospice of the Rock River Valley, Dixon (The Dixon Telegraph, Dixon, Lee Co., IL. Wed., April 6, 2011Page A4 - Col. 1-2).
