    Died:
Glenn R. - Boge - Boyum, a lifetime resident of Kasson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 2, at the age of 82. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson.

Glenn was born to Sanford and Lillian Boyum on April 2, 1928. After graduating from Kasson High School in 1946, Glenn began a long career with Erdman's grocery store, working his way from bag boy to manager.

On June 4, 1950, Glenn married Ellen Joyce Johnson. Together, they raised four children in the same home that Ellen continues to reside in today. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family.

Hard working and nurturing, Glenn was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church and is known for his many years of ushering on Sunday mornings and number calling at the church's annual Lutefisk dinner. Glenn was a volunteer firefighter for the City of Kasson for 34 years, second longest service ever for for the Kasson Fire Department. He was also a member of the Kasson Commercial Club, the Kasson Bicentennial committee, and served on church council. With his family, he planned and served the KM Golf Challenge for several years. He was instrumental in bringing senior housing to the city of Mantorville in the form of the Chestnut Street Apartments, which he co-owned and managed for many years.

Dating back to his high school years, Glenn had a passion for athletics and was a fierce competitor in football, basketball, track, and baseball. His love for sports continued throughout his lifetime and was most evident in his enthusiasm for the activities in which all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated. Athletic highlights during his lifetime included being named the Kasson Raiders Athlete of the Year in both 1945 an 1946, and at the age of 75, Glenn shot his first and only hole-in-one at the Zumbro Valley Golf Course.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Ellen, and four children, Sharon (Dallas) Ness of Mantorville, David (Kim) Boyum of Mantorville, Sandee (Doug) Kimble of St. Anthony, and Kristine (Keith) Knutson of Pine Island; 12 grandchildren, Marlo Bungum, Katie Primmer, Jeremy Quandt, Maggie Fitch, Lee Kimble, Mark Kimble, Rachel Linbo, Glenn Boyum, Adam Kimble, Corey Kimble, Andrew Knutson, and Zachary Knutson; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Dorothy Bennett of Plainview, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Boyum; and a brother-in-law, Archie Bennett.

Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 7, 2010, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson.

Dibble Funeral Home of Kasson is in charge of arrangements.
