    Howard (Archie) Floyd Bennett, 82, died Friday (Nov. 9, 2007) at his home in Plainview. Archie was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Winona, to Floyd and Evelyn (Janish) Bennett. He attended country school and graduated from Plainview High School.

    Archie joined the Army in 1943, served as a medic for the evacuation hospital unit, and traveled to Scotland, France, and Berlin, Germany, during World War II.
    In 1951 he married Dorothy Boyum in Kasson. He worked for his father, Floyd's, business, which he later owned & operated for more than 50 years. Today, the business is known as Bennett & Sons Sand & Gravel.

    Archie was very involved in the Plainview community and was an active member of the Plainview American Legion, the Lions Club, and Peace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed coffee hour, bowling, gardening, fishing, hunting, playing cards, helping with the business, spending time at the cabin and with his family, and wintering in Texas.

    Survivors include his wife, Dorothy (Tootie) of Plainview; four sons, Jim (Sue) of Minnetonka, and Steve (Kathy), Paul (Mary Rice) and Scott (Donna), all of Plainview; 10 grandchildren, Angie (Nathan) Radel, Nicole (Scot) Engler, Hollie (Josh), Tara, Michelle, Heather, Bridget, Brandon, Brady and Shawn and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandchild, Carson.

    To all those who have had the pleasure of knowing him, Archie will always be remembered as someone with a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his face, and someone who found a friend wherever he went. He left a footprint on many hearts of those he knew.

    The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Peace United Methodist Church in rural Plainview-Elgin, the Rev. Deanna Woodward will officiate. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview, and an hour before the service Monday at the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, with the Plainview American Legion performing military rites.
    Memorials are preferred to Mayo Hospice or Peace United Methodist Church.
