    Robert Lee "Bob" Boyum, 77, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at his home in Kasson.

    He was born April 30, 1932, in Kasson, to Sanford and Lillian Boyum. He graduated from Kasson High School, then served in the U.S. Army. He did a tour of duty in Japan. After being discharged, he worked for IBM in Rochester until he retired.

    Bob's top interest was his cabin in West Newton Colony, southeast of Kellogg, on the Mississippi River. He looked forward to holidays and special events with his family members. His other interests were collecting coins, antiques and collector plates, and going to the casinos.

    Bob was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kasson and the American Legion in Kasson.

    His dogs, Missey and then Charlie, were a very important part of his life.

    Bob is survived by his brother, Glenn (Ellen) Boyum of Kasson; his sister, Dorothy Bennett of Plainview; his nephews, Dave (Kim) Boyum of Mantorville, Jim (Sue) Bennett of Minnetonka, Minn., Steve (Kathy), Paul and Scott (Donna) Bennett, all of Plainview; his nieces, Sharon (Dallas) Ness of Mantorville, Sandy (Doug) Kimble of St. Anthony, Minn., and Kris (Keith) Knutson of Pine Island. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Howard "Archie" Bennett.

    The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, at St. John's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Harry Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Kasson, with the Kasson American Legion and Mantorville VFW providing military honors.

    Friends may call on Friday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the church. There will be no reviewal.

    Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church, 301 8th Ave. N.W., Kasson, MN 55944; or the Paws & Claws Humane Society in Rochester.
